03/01/16: Disability Issues; Melanoma; Douglas Anderson Writers' Festival; Flamingo Magazine

  Some recent state and federal legislation is meant to better the lives of people with disabilities. But at least one disability advocate here in Jacksonville says there are some unintended negatives.

Florida Senate President Andy Gardiner has made it a personal crusade to pass legislation benefiting people with intellectual disabilities.

We discuss disability issues with longtime advocate Nancy Keating, CEO of Clay County-based Challenge Enterprises.

Dr. Gregory Pennock, medical oncologist with Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, joins us with a look at new immunotherapy treatment for melanoma.

The 2016 Douglas Anderson Writers' Festival is taking place this Saturday at the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. The event will feature workshops for emerging writers, and will be headlined by poet Richard Blanco and author Ron Carlson. Douglas Anderson poetry teacher Tiffany Melanson and local poet Teri Grimm join us with a preview.

And we speak with Jamie Rich, publisher of the new statewide Flamingo Magazine, about their first issue, launching today. Flamingo Magazine is based in Ponte Vedra Beach.
