03/02/16: Bill Gulliford; Solar Net-Metering; Girls Inc. Of Jacksonville Daddy Daughter Dance

Bill Gulliford is one of two city councilmen who sponsored -- and then recently withdrew -- bills related to expanding anti-discrimination protections to LGBT residents.

Gulliford’s bill would have put the question on a local ballot: Should people be allowed to turn someone down for a job, housing, or service in places like restaurants because they’re gay or transgender?

We speak with Jacksonville City Council Bill Gulliford about the issue.

A JEA proposal to reduce the value of excess energy generated by residential and commercial solar arrays through changes to its net-metering policy has some local environmental advocates and business leaders concerned. John Culver, an at-large director with the U.S. Green Building Council's North Florida chapter and sustainability specialist with Environmental Services, Inc., and Earl Benton, CEO of Champion Brands, join us with their thoughts.

And we preview this weekend's Daddy Daughter Dance fundraising event for Girls Inc. of Jacksonville with Dr. Robin Rose, executive director of Girls Inc. of Jacksonville, and Mark and Anessa Coomes, a father and daughter who have attended past events.
