07/14/15: Climate Change; ACCORD Civil Rights Museum; Jessie Close; Brotherhood Of Magicians

This week Jacksonville University and the local chapter of the United Nations Association are sponsoring an open forum on climate, from greenhouse gases to sea level rise, and more. Climate experts agree that the world's overall temperature is headed upwards, but this doesn't mean every place is getting steadily and predictably warmer. Climate change is making the weather more variable, causing hotter summers, colder winters in some places, and more severe storms. What can we glean from the latest research, and in particular how is climate change expected to affect Florida with its thousands of miles of coastline? We discuss what's known and what isn't known about climate change with Dr. Jeremy Stalker, Jacksonville University ocean geologist.

In our America's First City series exploring St. Augustine's 450th Commemoration, we speak with local historian and author David Nolan of the nonprofit Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations, or ACCORD. ACCORD is behind the historic Freedom Trail in St. Augustine, and recently opened a new civil rights museum in the area.

Mental health advocate and speaker Jessie Close joins us with a preview of her keynote speech at WJCT and Baptist Health's upcoming "Good For You" event. Close is an ambassador for Bring Change 2 Mind, a nonprofit organization founded by her sister, actress Glenn Close, working to fight stigma and misunderstanding surrounding mental disorders.

And we speak with Joe Turner of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. More than 400 magicians from all over the world will be in Jacksonville for the group's 87th annual convention.
