08/01/16: 'Just Vote No' To Pension Tax Campaign; Zika Virus In Florida; Cole Pepper

'Just Vote No'

A new lawsuit has been filed that seeks to knock that half-cent sales tax proposal for Jacksonville off the ballot in the upcoming August 30 primary election.

The lawsuit says the ballot language is too confusing and misleading, even illegal.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry is leading the charge to get Duval County residents to vote “yes” on the measure to pay down the city’s massive pension debt. The mayor’s office says the referendum’s language meets all the requirements of state law.

However, a group opposing the ‘vote yes’ campaign is raising concerns.

Attorney John Winkler is president of the Concerned Taxpayers of Duval County and heads the Just Vote No campaign on the pension referendum.

We speak with him about why he's opposing the measure.

Zika Virus

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced Friday that health officials have ruled out travel and sexual transmission as possible routes of transmission for four Florida people now infected with Zika virus.

Florida is the first state in the nation to to report local transmission of Zika, which is spread by mosquitoes.

Dr. Mobeen Rathore, chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology with UF Health, joins us to discuss ways to curb the spread of the virus.
