09/08/15: Mental Health Facility; ACCORD Civil Rights Museum; Bali Prison Art; Robert Macomber

The Duval County Jail has served as the main mental health facility in the region for many years. The Jacksonville Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health Collaborative -- composed of mental health professionals, county officials and law enforcement officers -- met last week to begin planning a central receiving facility to help treat people with mental illness before they're put behind bars. We speak with Tara Wildes, Director of the Department of Corrections at JSO, Dr. Christine Cauffield, Executive Director of SF Health Systems, and Kristellys Zolondek, Community Engagement Specialist at LSF Health Systems.

Later this month, the St. Augustine ACCORD Civil Rights Museum will feature an evening with one of the leaders of the city's movement for equality in the 1960s, Dr. Robert Hayling. Dr. Priscilla Duncan, Director of Marketing for the museum, joins us with a preview of their "A Night Out at the Museum" event.

Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church Pastor Kyle Reese details the story of the "Bali Nine," a group of Australian men imprisoned by Indonesian authorities for trafficking drugs between the two countries. Two of the members, Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, received death sentences. They both made journeys of rehabilitation through faith and art before being executed in early 2015. The "?IMPRINTS OF TRANSFORMATION: Art from a Prison in Bali" exhibit featuring art from them and other inmates is currently on display at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church.

And we speak with maritime author Robert Macomber about his "Honor" series of novels, and his appearance at the Florida Heritage Book Festival and Writers Conference later this month.
