09/29/15: State Of Race Relations; Mental Illness Awareness; Author Julie Ingersoll; Blood Alliance

The results of a recent survey conducted by PBS NewsHour and Marist College’s Institute for Public Opinionpoint to a contrast in opinions along racial lines about the opportunities available today for African Americans. We discuss the state of race relations in America with Dr. JeffriAnne Wilder, UNF associate professor of sociology and race expert.

The first week in October is Mental Illness Awareness Week. Approximately one in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness in a given year. Shariq Refai, MD, a psychiatrist with Baptist Behavioral Health, joins us to discuss cutting-edge brain stimulation therapy started at Baptist to help people suffering from severe depression.

We speak with author and UNF professor of religious studies Julie Ingersoll about her book, "Building God’s Kingdom: Inside the World of Christian Reconstruction."

And we learn about opportunities to support The Blood Alliance with spokeswoman Odette Struys and WJCT community service team member Andrew Wiechman.
