10/10/2016: Nikolai Vitti; International Day Of The Girl; Jax Innovation Week

Duval School Superintendent Nikolai Vitti joined the show Monday with an update on schools being closed due to Hurricane Matthew and how the district handled the cleanup effort. We also spoke with Girls Inc. executive director Robin Rose about Tuesday’s International Day of the Girl. Jax Community of Entrepreneurs Executive Director Kate Stewart; Jennifer Giltrop with the Jacksonville Public Library; and Coretta Hill with United Way of Northeast Florida joined host Melissa Ross to speak about Jax Innovation Week.   

Nikolai Vitti

Duval County Schools remained closed Monday due to Hurricane Matthew. Vitti said power has been restored to all the schools but he believed teachers and other staff members needed an additional day to take care of personal matters. Schools will reopen on Tuesday.         

International Day of the Girl

Tuesday is the International Day of the Girl. Rose spoke about some of the programs being held in observation of the day and her reaction to the second presidential debate.     

Jax Innovation Week

Jacksonville Innovation Week will be held at various locations in town from Oct. 14-21. Stewart, Giltrop and Hill told Ross about the events planned for the week and the importance of encouraging local innovation.
