12/10/2018: Obamacare Dec. 15 Deadline; High School Champions

If you need health insurance for next year, the deadline to enroll in coverage in the Affordable Care Act for 2019 is this Saturday, December 15.

People have a lot of questions about what’s become known as Obamacare. To provide insights and answers we welcomed Joyce Case to Monday's First Coast Connect. She's the program director for the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida. Mincy Pollock, a navigator for the Affordable care Act also joined us.

Holiday Events

Noel Freidline, a graduate of UNF, headlines at the Ritz Theatre this Friday.

He’s performed in jazz festivals in Jacksonville, Pennsylvania and even Switzerland. He also was a house band member at the Bellagio in Las Vega and performed for actress Julia Roberts’ 35th birthday bash.

Stacy Aubrey of SMG gave us a preview of Freidline’s upcoming performance with the Noel Freidline Quintet featuring Maria Howell along with some other holiday events around town.

New Preps Tournament

A new high school basketball tournament kicks off this week in Jacksonville. It’s called the Fortegra High School 9:12 Invitational presented by The CSI Companies.

Airstreams Ventures CEO Alan Verlander previewed the new tournament that will be carried live on radio (1010 AM) and television (CW 17).

Mandarin, Raines Celebrate State Championships

Two Jacksonville high schools are celebrating state football championships.

Raines High School defeated Coca in 4A, 27-13 and Mandarin defeated Miami-Columbus in 8A, 37-35.  

WJCT Sports Analyst Cole Pepper joined us with the highlights along with a preview of the final Jaguars home game of the season and other area sports highlights.
