Wikipedia

Wednesday on First Coast Connect we spoke to Robbie Gordon. He’s the producer of the upcoming PBS documentary Secrets of Spanish Florida that airs next week on WJCT (01:01).

Dean of St. Johns Cathedral and author the Very Reverend Kate Moorehead told us about her latest book and her turn this month with Volunteers in Medicine Woman with Heart (27:19).

Narlene McLaughlin from Potter’s House International Ministries talked about how to cope with the holidays after a loved one has passed away (35:31).

Travel blogger Judy Wells told us about her most recent trip on a cruise ship and some ideas for travel in 2018 (46:00).

Secrets of Spanish Florida

A new PBS documentary uncovering American history that has previously been left out of textbooks will focus on Florida’s First Coast and the original colony settled by Europeans here in our area, nearly two generations before Plymouth and Jamestown.

Secrets of Spanish Florida, a Secrets of the Deadspecial 2-hour presentation, premieres Tuesday Dec. 26th at 9pm here on WJCT Television.

It’s a production that will literally rewrite history by challenging most Americans’ assumptions about just how our country actually began. It’s narrated by actor Jimmy Smits.

Kate Moorehead

Kate Moorehead is the tenth Dean of St. Johns Cathedral in Jacksonville. She’s in the spotlight this month as Volunteers in Medicine honors her and 11 other prominent women in the inaugural 2017 “Woman with Heart.”

It’s a fundraiser for Volunteers in Medicine where prominent women in Jacksonville spend a month each wearing a specially designed necklace that is being raffled off and touting the work of the non-profit.

Her latest book, Healed: The Mental and Spiritual Deliverance of Mary Magdalene, will be published in the spring of 2018.

Holiday Grief

The holidays aren't a joyful time for everyone, especially those dealing with the loss of loved ones. Whether this is the first Christmas they are facing without them, or the 21st, it can still trigger feelings of grief while everyone else around seems to be celebrating.

If you’ve ever been to the Potter's House Soul Food Bistro you probably know about Kingdom Plaza at Normandy Mall. What you might not know is that they also have many community programs available that are free to the community.

Judy Wells

Judy told us about her most recent cruise, which she took earlier this month. Her blog also gives advice on some interesting vacations you may consider for 2018.

Kevin Meerschaert can be reached at kmeerschaert@wjct.org, 904-358-6334 or on Twitter at @KMeerschaertJax.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
