Wednesday on First Coast Connect, we spoke with UF Health Jacksonville CEO Dr. Leon Haley on the troubles in Tallahassee of getting the legislature to agree on Medicaid funding and approving a budget  UPDATE - a budget was agreed upon Wednesday afternoon. There will now be a three-day “cooling off” period before the vote by the legislature (01:12).

Ahead of the City Rescue Mission’s Annual Difference Makers Banquet we spoke with Executive Director Penny Kievet and FCS Ministries Founder and Toxic Charity author Robert Lupton who’ll be speaking at the banquet (25:45).

MOCA Jacksonville’s Caitlin Doherty and artist Anila Quayyum Agha joined the show to talk about Anila’s Project Atrium exhibit, The Greys In-Between (35:30).

UF Health Jacksonville Funding

Florida’s regular 60-day legislative session will still have to be extended as a budget wasn’t agreed to by Tuesday. On Wednesday afternoon a deal was struck by state budget chiefs.

It’s always a struggle for hospitals like UF Health to get funding it says it needed to serve the at-risk community.

Toxic Funding

The City Rescue Mission’s 3rd Annual Difference Makers Banquet is coming up later this month.

The evening will feature Robert Lupton, author of the widely read book Toxic Charity.

It’s viewed as a groundbreaking examination of the way well-intentioned efforts to help the neediest people in a community can often have toxic effects. Lupton has invested over 40 years of his life in inner-city Atlanta.

Project Atrium

MOCA Jacksonville is kicking off its new season this spring with a Project Atrium installation by a Pakistani-American artist.

In her work, Anila Quayyum Agha explores the exclusion of women from the public domain.

In The Greys In-Between, Agha creates two laser-cut stainless steel sculptures that employ light and cast shadow.

Project Atrium: Anila Quayyum Agha runs from March 10 to June 24, and opens March 9 with a public reception from 8 – 9 p.m.

Arts In Our Schools Month

March is Arts in Our Schools Month for Duval County Public Schools. There are numerous events planned, including the 3rd Celebration of the Arts at 7 p.m. on April 5 at the Times-Union Center. It will feature the work of over 400 visual and performing arts students
