Amelia Island Selected Among Top US Island Destinations

This barrier island in Florida's northeastern reaches has been named one of the best in the country.

Amelia Island was chosen one of the top 10 U.S. islands in the 2016 Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

The island, with its historic landmarks, white-sand beaches, world-class golf courses and top-rated spas and restaurants, placed fourth as one of two destinations selected from Florida. The other is Longboat Key.

“Year after year, Amelia Island adds to her list of recognitions, and this particular award has become a central part of our marketing efforts,” said Gil Langley, president and CEO of the Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau, in a news release. “In seven of the last eight years, readers of this top travel magazine have voted our island paradise into an elite group of global destinations, which is a tremendous accomplishment and invaluable endorsement by seasoned travelers.”

According to the lifestyle travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler, the list is based on reader submissions, ratings and comments.

The full list is published on the Conde Nast Traveler website.
