Animal lovers young and old were learning how to care for very young kittens and puppies in a vacant space at Northeast Tallahassee's Village Square on Saturday.

The Leon County Humane Society's April Rider explained what the Bottle Baby Shower was all about.

"We're very excited to welcome a bunch of neighbors and people who are amazing supporters in the community out to welcome the new arrivals who will be coming into our foster program and will be available for adoption very soon," she said, indicating the large crowd jamming the former Wood You location in the shopping center. "And we're also demonstrating to the community how easy and rewarding it is to be a foster parent."

That included learning how to bottle-feed newborn kittens. Rider said the Society has lots of opportunities for new foster parents. Especially since the organization now has about 80 newborn kittens that will soon be looking for permanent homes.

"We welcome new fosters every day," she said. "All people need to do is to go onto our web site (www.lchs.info) and apply there and also it's a matter of reaching out to them when we need a foster parent and then putting them in touch with our coordinators."
