Burning Body Found In Car Tuesday Morning In Clay County

St. Johns River Water Management District

Clay County police are asking for help in their investigation of a body found in a burning car Tuesday morning in Middleburg.

In a written statement, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the body was discovered around 8:15 a.m. on a one-lane dirt road in Jennings State Forest.

By the time first responders arrived, the damage was so bad that the car’s make and model could not be identified, and neither could the victim's gender. The remains are being sent to the medical examiner’s office in Jacksonville.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit.
