This piece of Smith's collection is entitled "Fragile Faith."

A show by Jacksonville artist Jim Smith opens Friday at Riverside Fine Arts at 1100 Stockton Street followed by an Alliance Brass Ensemble concert.

The title of the art installation is “Closet Christian: Christian In A Secular World.”

The show is Smith’s take on what it means to be a Christian in - as he sees it  - a mostly secular world.

“One of my pieces is a manger scene completely made of glass and it has a hammer that’s connected to the manger and the title is ‘Fragile Faith,’ which I have. And glass is a perfect example of what is fragile and things come along and smack it a lot,” said Smith.

Smith’s ”Closet Christian” will be on exhibit in the art gallery at Riverside Fine Arts through December 27.

Admission is free.
