Peter Haden

A memorial service was held in downtown Jacksonville Thursday to commemorate the thirteenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

Seven members of Jacksonville Fire and Rescue’s Pipes and Drums Band commanded the attention of everyone attending  in Metropolitan Park. The Women of Color Cultural Foundation hosted the event honoring First Responders.

"We can never say 'thank you' often enough to our police officers, our firefighters, and all who served in armed forces - whether now or in the past," said Keynote Speaker Mayor Alvin Brown.

Commemorative plaques were given to leaders representing the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, and the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air National Guard.
