UNF’s Shakespeare In The Park, EWC’s 149th Anniversary, and the “Conscience Protection” bill are all in the headlines today.

Headlines

The Florida House passed a bill that allows adoption agencies to reject prospective parents for “religious or moral convictions.” Critics say the bill could allow discrimination against gays, divorced, Jewish and multi-race parents.

Edward Waters College celebrated its 149th anniversary of the school’s founding. The school was originally created by the African Methodist Episcopal Church after the Civil War to teach newly freed slaves.

University of North Florida brings Shakespeare In The Park back to Northeast Florida with “Twelfth Night.” The production will take place first at Atlantic Beach’s Johansen Park this weekend and will move to Church of the Good Shepherd next weekend.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office director Tom Hackney says the man shot by police was brandishing a gun when the undercover detectives walked up on him.
