Florida Court Denies Gay Partner Child Visitation

A state appeals court has ruled a Florida woman doesn’t have visitation rights to the children she was raising with her same-sex partner. Elizabeth Pasik argues she’s the “defacto or psychological” parent to the children her partner conceived through artificial insemination. Rev. Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, of the Campaign for Southern Equality, says same-sex parents deserve the same rights as everyone else.“What we know is that there are LGBT families living all across Florida", said Beach-Ferrara. "These are people who are already parents to their children each and every day of their kids’ lives. They’re there when they wake up sick in the middle of the night, they’re there to take them to soccer practice after school.”

The Second District Court of Appeal says the question needs to be decided by the Legislature.
