Funk Fest, Players Championship Headline Big Entertainment Events On Mother’s Day Weekend

Whether your mom is into golf, funk or art, there’s plenty to do around the First Coast this weekend.

Clear skies and warm temperatures greeted Funk Fest preparations at Metropolitan Park Friday afternoon.

Funk Festis going on May 11 and May 12 at Metropolitan Park with performances from Xscape, Anthony Hamlilton, Tank, Brandy, Lil kim, Plies, Raheem Devaughn, Carl Thomas, Adina Howard. Performing artists are subject to change. Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Players Championship continues at TPC Sawgrass through Sunday. You'll find a schedule of events, course map, parking information and the best routes to get there on this webpage.

MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Family Day is Saturday May 12 between 11 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  MOCA invites you to celebrate with a free day of art-making, interactive fun and other surprises. MOCA Family Day is a free event designed around making creative space for the entire family.

Black Ties & Blindfolds, hosted by MOMS (Moms on a Mission) for Sight, is held each year to support sight saving research. They are honoring April Lufriu who is the 2012 Mrs. World and Foundation Fighting Blindness Spokesperson. She’s a mom on a mission to cure her children’s inherited retinal degenerative disease. This event is May 12, 7 -10 p.m.

The Lemoncurd Screening/Fundraiser Launch Party is also this weekend. “Lemoncurd is a mockumentary-style series that follows Virginia Lemoncurd, an oblivious southern woman, and her pursuits in attempting to create her own homemade cooking show,” according to the Lemoncurd Facebook page.  The screening is on May 12 between 7 and 10:30 p.m. at The 5 & Dime. A Theater Company

The Dinner Detective will be at the Omni Jacksonville Hotel on Saturday May 12 between 6 - 9 P.M.  “The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show is very different from traditional murder mystery dinner shows. We will hide non-costumed actors in the audience that are pretending to be part of the crowd,” via The Dinner Detective {Game Over} Facebook page.

Jacksonville Dance Theater will present its sixth annual dance concert at the Florida Theatre on May 12 at 8 p.m. It will be highlighting the range of athletic, entertaining, and eclectic works the company is known for. The show includes repertory pieces by artistic director, Rebecca R. Levy, and Jacksonville’s own, James Boyd III, and two world premieres by choreographers Tiffany S. Santiero and Jay Jackson.

The Brady Kinder Foundation third annual Brady’s Super Hero 5k and fun run will be May  12 from 8 to 11 a.m. at The Jacksonville Landing.

7 Street Band will in the Courtyard of the Jacksonville Landing  from 8 p.m to 1 a.m.

Jackal & Hyde will be performing at Myth Nightclub, May 12. It’s been five years since their last release. The band features Scott Weiser & Todd Walker,  who have re-emerged on Trash Fence Records (U.S.).

Five-time Grammy-winner and New York Times bestselling author, Wynonna Judd and the Jacksonville Symphony will be at Jacoby Hall in the The Florida Times Union Center on May 12

And happening at the Veterans Memorial Arena: the  Jacksonville Sharks take on the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks on Saturday May 12  at 7 p.m.
