The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Presents

Future Retro: The Great Age of the American Automobile

If you love automobiles and see their creations as Art then you will be going to The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardensto experience Future Retro: The Great Age of the American Automobile. The exhibition, on view through September 8, 2013, is comprised of drawings from the collection of Jean S. and Frederick A. Sharf in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The drawings showcase the beauty and ingenuity of American automotive design during the decades following World War II, a landmark period in car styling. These illustrations, from preliminary sketches to fully rendered works, provide a rare glimpse into the creative process of some of America’s premier car designers. Featured along with these two-dimensional works will be classic automobiles, organized by Bill Warner, Founder and Chairman of Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

"The Cummer can't wait to share this impressive collection of drawings with our community," said Chief Curator Holly Keris, "and the fact that we will be displaying them along with a selection of automobiles in the Museum makes this an exciting opportunity. We look forward to bringing these postwar decades to life for our visitors."
