Via The Jacksonville Daily Record

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is coming to Jacksonville’s Deerwood Station.

The Jacksonville shop is planned in Deerwood Station at 8221 Southside Blvd., according to our Jacksonville Daily Record news partner. The almost 3,000-square-foot restaurant will be on the north end of the shopping strip and offer about 144 seats, according to a permit plan.

Fuzzystacoshop.com, showing 165 open or planned locations, says the original Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is on Berry Street in Fort Worth, Texas.

“It was there that a glorious vision of taco heaven took hold in 2003: It would have frosty drinks. It would have good vibes. It would be the kind of place that you never want to leave. It would be a huge, craving-inducing success,” says the website.

Fuzzy’s has almost 150 locations opened across the country, according to fuzzystacoshop.com. Those include seven in Florida.

Among the at least 18 locations “coming soon” are three Florida restaurants in Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale and Lakeland.

The menu includes starters, soups, salads, burritos, burrito bowls, nachos, plates, quesadillas, tacos (of course), sides, desserts, kids’ meals, desserts and all-day breakfast.

The online menu includes beer, margaritas and specialty drinks.

Plans show margarita machines, beer taps, an import-beer bottle cooler and beer bar coolers.

In 2016, Atlanta-based NRD Capital Management bought a 70 percent stake in the then 90-unit Fuzzy’s Taco Shop to accelerate growth of the taco concept. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The units serve Baja-style tacos with a counter-order service style.

The site says the first Fuzzy’s Taco Shop opened in 2001 near the Texas Christian University campus in Fort Worth. Chuck Bush and his father, Alan Bush, bought Fuzzy’s in 2003.

A pending permit application shows Kaneco Construction LLC as the contractor for the $157,000 tenant space renovation at Deerwood Station.
