Identifying, Preventing And Coping With Bullying As Nation Marks Prevention Month

Wikimedia Commons

A New Jersey has become the latest flash point in the way schools and communities deal with bullying.

Sayreville War Memorial High School had to cancel the rest of its football season after seven players were charged last week with attacking and sexually assaulting younger players in the team’s locker room last month.

This is another shocking incident of school bullying, an issue that continues to bedevil educators and parents even though zero tolerance policies have been enacted at schools around the country in recent years . There has also been major effort to educate the public about the lingering scars bullying leaves on children.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Rebecca Looney, advanced practice nurse, and AnnelieMcCorie Welch, licensed clinical social worker, of Pediatric Associates of Jacksonville joined Melisasa Ross to discuss how parents can identify, prevent and cope with bullying.
