St. Johns County is now working on collecting storm debris from Hurricane Irma.

St. Johns County is working on cleaning up the debris from Hurricane Irma.

Friday the county initiated its Hurricane Irma Debris Collection Program, according to St. Johns County Emergency Management.

St. Johns County residents are being encouraged to move all storm debris to the curb.

Crews will be making multiple passes through neighborhoods to "ensure all storm-related debris is collected," St. Johns Emergency Management said in an email to WJCT News.

The county is asking residents to follow these guidelines to help with the debris removal:

  • Place storm debris in the right of way at the curb.
  • Debris must be three feet from utility boxes, mailboxes, hydrants, and other obstacles.
  • Debris collection crews will not pick up bags, containers, leaves, or small debris.
  • Separate vegetation from all other storm-related debris.
  • Bagged vegetative debris (leaves) will be picked up on regularly scheduled garbage collection days.

No chemicals or hazardous waste will be collected at the curb.
Hazardous waste should be disposed of at the Tillman Ridge or Stratton Road Transfer Stations during regular operating hours.
