Ballroom dancers from the Jacksonville area will be appearing in the PBS competition show “America’s Ballroom Challenge,” premiering at 9 p.m. Friday on WJCT public television.

Jacksonville dancer Misha Vlasov and his partner will appear on the first episode. So will Peter and Alexandra Perzhu. The couple owns Arthur Murray Dance Studio in St. Augustine. Alexandra says, although they have won international accolades before, being on the TV show was exciting in a different way.

“It’s always been our dream to be at that show on TV because when we came to the states we would watch that show and we were really amazed and taken by that show, and we were very inspired, and we thought, ‘Maybe one day we could be on that show,’” she says.

The three-part television series “America’s Ballroom Challenge” brings together competitors in the standard and Latin styles to compete for the title “America’s Best” dancers.
