The Jaxson: Retail Is Not Dead On The First Coast

Jan 29, 2018

Orange Park is losing its Toys ‘R’ Us store, as the company announced last week it’s closing that location and 180 other stores nationwide.

Overall, though, brick-and-mortar retail is far from dead on the First Coast.

That’s what Ennis Davis with The Jaxson tells WJCT News Director Jessica Palombo.

Davis said not only is retail alive and kicking, but it’s set to transform some commercial corridors that have struggled for three decades. For example, the former Kmart shopping center at Beach Boulevard and University Boulevard is ready for a makeover, as is a shopping center on Lane Avenue at I-10.

He says not only is retail healthy, but it’s adapting to meet shoppers where they live. For example, the Target store on Southside Boulevard near the Avenues Mall is set to be renovated and stocked with different products that meet the demands of that specific part of town, Davis said.
