Leon County Democrats held their 18th Annual Picnic at Tallahassee's Lake Ella Legion Hall on Saturday. The event brought many political friends and opponents together to share barbeque and listen to speeches.

As is traditional, the various candidates worked the picnic serving line. For awhile, that placed 5th Congressional Challenger Alvin Brown right next to incumbent Congressman Al Lawson. But no food fight erupted between the two. Later, Brown took the stage to make his stump speech.

"No one should be without health care in this country. It should be a right, not a privilege. And I'm gonna make sure we protect...I'm gonna challenge Trump every day on health care!" he exclaimed.

Before his campaign talk, Lawson took a moment to eulogize former Legal Services of North Florida head Kris Knab who died last week.

"All over North Florida, Kris made an impact; made an impact in helping those who are less fortunate, especially poor people," Lawson said before urging those in attendance to observe a moment of silence.

Then it was back to politicking. There were more than a dozen candidates pitching to a very supportive audience made up totally of fellow Democrats.
