Miami voters decided to allow Jungle Island to build a 300-room hotel on its Watson Island property.

Listen to the Aug. 31, 2018 episode of The Florida Roundup here. Reporters Brian Bandell and Kyra Gurney are featured in the third segment, beginning at 41:00.

In Miami, it’s a 13-story hotel at what used to be called Parrot Jungle — now Jungle Island. In South Miami, it’s a rule change that could mean big changes at The Shops at Sunset Place mall.

Brian Bandell, a reporter with the South Florida Business Journal, and Kyra Gurney, a Miami Herald reporter, join WLRN’s Tom Hudson to consider the interplay of real estate and politics.
