New York Jets Release Tebow

ESPN

UPDATE 10:30: Earlier, we erroneously reported that the New York Jets had drafted Tim Tebow, when they had actually traded for him. This article has been corrected to reflect that.

ESPN is reportingthat the New York Jets have released Jacksonville native Tim Tebow just over a year after trading for him.

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," says Jets coach Rex Ryan in a press release. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."

According to ESPN, Tebow became expendable when the Jets signed former Jaguar quarterback David Garrard and drafted Geno Smith.

While some fans have lobbied to bring Tebow back home to Jacksonville, new Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell said at his first press conference in January that there was no scenario under which he would join the team.

Sean Birch joined the WJCT team in late 2011 and was with the company until 2016.
