FSCJ (Florida State College at Jacksonville) is planting "seeds" of economic empowerment through an innovative program in partnership with Georgetown University. It's the only program of its kind in Florida.
Right now the school is looking for host families to participate in the SEED program, which stands for"Scholarships for Education and Economic Development." It's a program designed to help women in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. FSCJ works with these women on a two-year training program in “Small and Medium Enterprise Management and Marketing for Women,” a field critical to the social and economic development of their countries.
"We're the only program in the country that exclusively works with female students," says Anna Marie Siegel, FSCJ Director of International Student Services. "The women who complete the program return to their home countries with life-changing skills."
SEED is currently seeking host families for female students arriving on Aug. 7, 2013, as they begin their two-year course of study at Florida State College at Jacksonville. To learn more or to volunteer, visit their web site here.
