A resolution to honor the Hindu Society of Northeast Florida has been introduced to the Jacksonville City Council. The resolution, introduced by City Council President Anna Lopez Brosche, commends the organization for, “supporting community causes and helping to improve the Jacksonville community.”

The society was formed in 1991 to do community outreach.

“It’s definitely a huge achievement for the Hindu temple and the society as a whole. So we are excited, we are pleased to be honored,” Vice Chair Sandip Gupta said. “We have been in this community for such a long time so it feels special to be recognized.”

The non-profit has worked with the community from its inception through different activities and fundraisers. It hosts multiple events a year that are open to the public, including carnivals and summer camp.

It has worked to raise funds for Feeding Northeast Florida, assist hurricane victims, and other local needs.

The temple, located at 4968 Greenland Road, also hosts an annual community medical fair which is free and open to the public. There community members can get free medical consultation from doctors and blood tests.

The society also runs a youth organization, named The Ripples, who also volunteer in the community. Last year the group had a blanket drive for homeless residents of Jacksonville.

Giving back to the community is easy, Gupta said, when it gives you so much in return.
