Burt Reynolds is perhaps best known for acting in films, like “Smokey and the Bandit” and “Boogie Nights.”

While he was born in Michigan, he grew up in Florida.

Reynolds also had a college football career at Florida State University. Before a couple of knee injuries sidelined him, he attended FSU on a football scholarship as a halfback for the Seminoles.

He was also a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at FSU. Reynolds died Thursday at age 82 at the Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida.

“The entire FSU family is saddened to learn we have lost our good friend Burt Reynolds...we will miss him dearly,”  said FSU President John Thrasher, in a statement.
