St. Johns County Crash Kills 4 On Florida 206 Near Elkton

A head-on crash Wednesday in St. Johns County killed all four people in both vehicles on Florida 206 two miles east of County Road 207, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash near Elkton, about halfway between Interstate 95 and Florida 207, was reported just after 8 a.m., our Florida Times-Union news partner quoted Sgt. Dylan Bryan as saying.

Three people were in an Infiniti sport utility vehicle, while just a driver was in a Dodge Durango, Bryan said.

The crash occurred after the Dodge driver, who was from St. Johns County, had passed an eastbound truck, Bryan said.

The tractor-trailer driver said that after the Dodge passed, the driver never got back over into his lane and slowly drifted off to the left onto the shoulder, Bryan said. The other driver coming in the other direction took evasive action to the right, where they struck head on.

The three victims in the Infiniti were from the Tampa area, he said. The driver and front passenger were wearing seat belts, while the younger victim in back was not. It is unknown if the Dodge driver was wearing a seat belt.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reported traffic was being diverted away from the area since the two-lane road was shut down due to the investigation and cleanup.
