Sundial continued the "strong mayor" initiative conversation.

Voters in the City of Miami will have the opportunity to vote for a “strong mayor” initiative on the November general election. The “strong mayor” proposal would give extended executive power to the City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. The proposal has faced fierce opposition from a number of people including Merrett Stierheim, who has served the roles of city manager of Miami, county manager of Miami-Dade and the superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Stierheim has worked in a wide array of administrations and believes the strong mayor form of government is not a good idea. He joined Sundial to explain what the strong mayor proposal is and why it would not be a good fit for the city.

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, Florida ranks third in the nation for "solar power potential." This weekend, the South Florida Coordinator for Solar United Neighbors is hosting the National Solar Tour for Florida residents to learn more about solar energy options. Participants will have the opportunity to tour 12 solar-powered homes across Miami-Dade to explore and determine whether or not its a solar energy is a good option for their homes. Jody Finver from the South Florida Coordinator for Solar United Neighbors joined Sundial to talk about The National Solar Tour in Miami on Oct. 6 and 7.

How does one make a living just on social media? The job is known as an “influencer” and the idea is simple: companies will pay a social media user with a huge following to represent their products. Sundial spoke to three Miami-based influencers who are teaming up with companies during Hispanic Heritage month to make culturally specific posts. Marvin Tapia, Danie Gomez Ortigoza and Annie Vazquez explain how their job is sustainable, what it requires and the future of the “influencer” community.
