The trial for an ex-Tallahassee Police Officer charged with three counts of sexual battery began Monday. He was fired for allegedly assaulting a woman during a routine traffic stop.

Jury selection for the trial of Vincent Crump began Monday, with opening arguments scheduled for Tuesday at the Leon County Courthouse.

Crump is accused of raping a woman in February after pulling her over for driving with no headlights on.

The victim claims Crump says he smelled marijuana in her car and offered to make her a deal. He instructed the victim to follow him to Dorothy B. Oven Park where he had sex with her.

The victim says that while she was never explicitly directed to have sex with him, she feared repercussions if she didn’t do what Crump wanted.

Crump claims the sex was consensual.

His lawyer filed a motion last Friday to suppress Crump’s statements given to investigators, but that motion was denied.
