State Of Emergency Expires; Hermine Moves North

Updated at noon

The National Hurricane Center at 11 a.m. reports the center of Tropical Storm Hermine was inland over southeastern Georgia. Hermine is moving toward the northeast near 18 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours with a gradual reduction in forward speed expected Saturday.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said the state of emergency has expired.

In St. Augustine, the city's Solid Waste Division will collect remaining storm debris Friday and make an additional recycling pickup Saturday.

City offices are also closed Monday in observance of Labor Day holiday.

Transportation Updates

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority could end its  service at midnight tonight because of Hurricane Hermine.

Riders are encouraged to get where they need to be before then. If weather worsens sooner, buses may stop pickups.

If weather permits, JTA buses will operate on a Sunday schedule Friday, which means less frequent stops.

The Beaches and Riverside-Avondale night trolleys will not operate Friday, nor will the St. Johns River Ferry.

The Skyway monorail will continue operating unless winds rise to over 35 mph.

Bridges will close if sustained winds rise above 40 mph.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief Leonard Propper says JSO will be monitoring wind speeds throughout the evening and the public will know as soon as police make the determination.

“If you have to go out tomorrow, — we do not want you to go out —but if you have to go out tomorrow, I want everybody to have both hands on the wheel, a seat belt on tight, and nice and slowly creep their way over what bridges are online.”

Duval County has canceled trash pickup.
