The electronic music festival Ultra has been located in Bayfront Park for the past 18 years. The three-day event has brought thousands of fans to Miami, but also major traffic congestion. Last week, the City of Miami Commission unanimously voted not to renew the festival’s contract for Bayfront Park. Miami Herald reporter Joey Flechas was at the City Commission meeting and joined Sundial to share details on the future of the event.

Listen to today's show.

Sundial continued the conversation about high school football in South Florida with ethicist Randall Curren, a professor at the University of Rochester who recently published a paper in the Harvard Educational Review challenging school districts to end football at high schools. We asked parents about their concerns about football in high schools and shared comments on the show. Curren discussed his recent paper the ethical argument for ending high school football programs.

On this week’s “Live from the 305,” Sundial featured funk band Lemon City Trio. They joined Sundial to discuss the future of music in Miami and explained how they balance producing music with family demands (hint: there's a new father in the band). Lemon City Trio will perform at Miami’s Lagniappe House on Oct. 19. Videos of the group’s performance at WLRN can be found on Sundial’s Facebook Page.

Thirty-five years ago Bulgarian artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and his wife Jeanne-Claude made history in Miami with their “Surrounded Islands” project -- pink fluorescent blankets that took over 11 Biscayne islands. Sundial sat down with Christo at the Perez Art Museum Miami on Oct. 3. They talked about the role his late wife Jean-Claude played in his artistic process and how the project was initially received when it was first unveiled in May of 1983.  The Perez Art Museum Miamiwill unveil an exhibition honoring the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude and host a talk with him on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 pm.

Watch the video of our full interview with Christo Vladimirov Javacheff.
