UNF Poll: Florida Dems Favor Clinton Over Sanders, Rank Economy No. 1 Problem

If Florida’s presidential primary were held tomorrow, a new statewide poll by the University of North Florida shows Hillary Clinton would beat challenger Bernie Sanders by a margin of 54 to 24 percent among likely Democratic voters.

The results mirror those of a Quinnipiac University poll released last week that put Clinton ahead of Sanders, 59 to 33 percent.

UNF political scientist Michael Binder oversees the school’s Public Opinion Research Lab, which conducted the poll.

Binder says even though the polling techniques are different, the fact that the results are similar lends credence to their outcomes.

“We both use live callers and call cell phones, but we dialed this off of an actual list of registered voters. Quinnipiac does a different method using random digit dialing,” Binder says. “But both surveys came to not very different conclusions, which suggests that’s probably indicative of the overall trend in the state.”

Binder says UNF will start polling likely Republican voters on Wednesday, March 2.  The results of that survey, he says, will be released on March 9.
