The WFSU family is in mourning following the death this week of former General Manager Pat Keating.

In Memory of Patrick Keating 1952-2018

It is with a heavy heart that we at WFSU Public Media share the news that our former General Manager, Patrick Keating, passed away earlier this week. In addition to leading WFSU from 1995 to his retirement in 2015, Pat was a staff member at WFSU from 1976 to 1987 serving in a variety of positions at the station including Program Manager.

Pat Keating first joined WFSU-TV in the video production trenches back in the days when the station was jammed into claustrophobic quarters on-campus in Dodd Hall.  Not long after, he left the station and ultimately become the general manager of the local Comcast Cable operation.

But Keating returned to WFSU as general manager in 1995 and he made sure everyone involved with the operation shared and executed his vision.

“We have said for a long time that we wanted to be more than a TV station that simply broadcasts a signal out over the air.  We want to be around and in the community making a difference.  We want people who live in our area to think that one of the reasons that it’s good to live where we do is because of the contributions that WFSU is making.”

Keating retired in 2015 after serving 20 years as general manager. He died at his Tallahassee home this week.

This story will be updated when memorial plans become available.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mistakenly said WFSU was once located in Diffenbaugh Hall. It should have said Dodd Hall.
