The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has reached a deal to design a transportation hub to integrate key local, regional and intracity services downtown.

The  U.S. Coast Guard is patrolling the St. Johns River off of Jacksonville's north bank Friday. Commanding Officer Nicholas Pavlik steers toward a manatee zone right under the Hart Bridge that’s marked with an orange and white sign.

“If you’re outside of those red and green buoys, you need to be at no wake and that is the manatee zone,” said Pavlik, pointing to the marked areas. “That’s where the manatees tend to be, kind of outside the channel, off to the side grouped together.”

 


Gas Prices In Jacksonville, State On the Rise

Gas prices are on the rise and in Jacksonville fuel costs are hovering between $1.87 and $2.07 for a gallon of regular unleaded, and diesel fuel costs between $2.09 and $2.19.

Retail gas prices in Florida rose about 2 cents last week, while Georgia motorists saw a leap of 9 cents at the pump.

In Hemming Park on Wednesday, some people were playing chess while others in suits walked to and from City Hall. Meanwhile, 62 feet above them, a bronze Confederate soldier stood atop a fountain. The monument is one of the few pieces of Jacksonville that survived the Great Fire of 1901.
