Weekly humor columnist for the St. Augustine Record Brian Thompson won second place in the Society of Newspaper Columnists’ 2016 column contest with his piece, “A True Disney dream come true.”

Jacksonville has placed 49th out of 50 on a ranking of the funniest cities in the country, as compiled by a University of Colorado professor and the Humor Research Lab.

His comic strip might be new to the First Coast, but drawing and writing in the name of humor is nothing new for one of Jacksonville's most recent residents.

For those of you wondering if the Mathews Bridge is still closed after sustaining major damage from a ship strike last week, there's an app for that!

It actually isn't an app, but the website IsTheMathewsBridgeClosedToday.com has gained popularity on social media since it was launched on Tuesday.

The site answers, "YES," in large type and includes a humorous missive about the bridge closure. Examples include, "The ship has hit the span, "Ship happens," and "All signs point to the Fuller Warren."
