When he campaigned for governor in 2010, Rick Scott pledged to create 700,000 new jobs if he won.

As Scott seeks re-election in 2014, he’s already touting his jobs record and falling unemployment.

This week though, a joint investigative series in the Tampa Bay Times and Miami Herald takes issue with the governor’s jobs claims.

Jacksonville officials say this year’s Week of Valor won’t be a financial burden to the city and they’re confident last year’s problems won’t happen again.

On Tuesday, Mayor Alvin Brown announced the schedule of events that culminate with the Jaguars Military Appreciation Day game against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Nov. 17.

The city lost about $700,000 last year when plans for a basketball game between Florida and Georgetown on an aircraft carrier went awry, but with no such game on the schedule this year officials expect things to go much smoother.

It may have been a blowout loss for the Jaguars, but local business officials are hoping their trip to London for the Jags Oct. 27 game against the 49ers will lead to new jobs and increased tourism in Jacksonville.

Mayor Brown said the four year commitment to the London games will give Jacksonville more international exposure.

JAX USA President Jerry Mallot said at least economic deals could be on the horizon.

The Jax Chamber Board of Directors voted on Friday to urge the Jacksonville City Council not to pass Mayor Alvin Brown's pension reform plan.

Jax Chamber President Daniel Davis said any plan needs to be funded, accountable and predictable. He says the legislation in front of the council doesn't go far enough to do this.

The Chamber's opposition to the plan comes on the heels  of the Jacksonville Civic Council also asking the plan be rejected.

State Representative Daniel Davis started his new job as President and CEO of JAX Chamber Monday morning.

Davis is a former City Council President and just stepped down as Executive Director of the North Florida Builders Association.

He says the first thing he’ll do is travel around the area for about three months getting to know chamber membership.

Davis sent Chamber members a message saying he’s committed to growing more jobs in the region. He will not step down from the State Legislature, but he won’t run for re-election.

A 2007 study by the University of Florida estimated the economic impact of The Players Championship to be $150 million. It creates 2,000 jobs, and is the busiest week at Jacksonville International Airport.

That alone is enough to make Chamber officials smile.

But its not just to watch the tournament that thousands of people pack onto the Ponte Vedra course every year.
