A conservation team led by the North Florida Land Trust is getting more than $3.5 million in federal funding to help protect the Ocala to Osceola wildlife corridor, which is also known as O2O.

Following the holidays and a snap of unusually cold weather, some Northeast Florida hospitals are dealing with dangerously-low blood supplies.

A hard freeze warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday for most of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia after hours of near-freezing rain on Wednesday. Wind chills Thursday morning are forecast to be in the teens as far south as Ocala. 

Jacksonville Humane Society Executive Director Denise Deisler says that means pets need to be taken inside for their safety.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry is advising people to stay off the roads Wednesday, particularly during busy drive times.  He’s ordered the closure of all city government offices for non-essential employees Wednesday.

A proposal to allow sexual predators to live closer to Jacksonville daycares, playgrounds and parks is not getting strong support at City Hall.  A Council committee Tuesday voted against the idea.


With less of a threat, the state of Florida has discontinued its Zika virus hotline.

Many churches in Jacksonville will host New Year’s Eve services, sometimes called “watch nights.”  This year, some predominantly African-American churches will be turning their focus back to a fading tradition: recognizing the anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.
