Periods of heavy rainfall could lead to local flash flooding in our area over the next few days. Meteorologist Megan Borowski says an approaching front is the source of the risk,

The same system and frontal boundary that triggered excessive rainfall from the Northeast into the Tennessee Valley is starting to sag into our area. It is forecasted to stay put, while at the same time southwesterly winds off the Gulf will bring a humid air mass overhead.

This should set the stage for on and off storms over the next few days, and rounds of heavy rain could lead to flooding.

Borowski says that areas that receive multiple rounds of thunderstorms will be most at risk for flooding. She reminds us to seek higher ground should water levels rise in our area, and to never drive through flooded streets.
