Traffic Delays Expected for Fourth of July Weekend

Pressly Pratt

This weekend, expect heavy traffic and some road closures because of July 4 festivities.

Several roads in downtown Jacksonville will be closed all day Monday. And the Acosta Bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. Monday night for the city’s fireworks display. The show begins at 9:45 p.m.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will be tweeting traffic information throughout the weekend.

Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Ron Tittle said information will also be available on the 511 app.

“Know before you go if you’re going to heading out for an event,” Tittle said.  “Look at that app and see if there are some closures, in addition to working with JSO and finding out the information that they’re putting last minute as well. So there are great opportunities for us to know and be able to make detours.”

Officials are also reminding partiers to refrain from driving or boating under the influence this weekend.
