A public middle school in Jacksonville is receiving blowback after encouraging its students to bring Bibles to class.
Tuesday evening, LaVilla School of the Arts — part of the Duval County Public Schools family — announced Bring Your Bible to School Day would take place on Thursday.
The event, which specifically supports Christianity, purports itself as a "nationwide, student-led movement ... to celebrate our religious freedoms." The event is hosted by Focus on the Family, a Christian ministry that promotes conservative political and religious principles.
