A major multi-vehicle crash scene shut down Interstate 95 south at Airport Road for about two hours Thursday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
But southbound traffic was beginning to snake past the crash site by 4:30 p.m. as wreckage was cleared and a single lane reopened, according to traffic camera video.
Fire officials and JaxReady posted that multiple crews responded to the wrecks just before 3 p.m. involving multiple tractor-trailers and other vehicles. Called a mass-casualty event, traffic was initially stopped on I-95 south and "very backed up north," fire officials stated.
