He formerly worked for The Florida Channel, WTXL-TV, and before graduating interned with WFSU News. He is excited to return to the newsroom. Floridians have been left confused and frustrated by the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine. While most expected a unified distribution plan the responsibility has been passed on to the state’s 67 local health departments—which has led to a patchwork of policies. But Florida Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz says he thinks those kinks will soon get worked out. He spoke during a virtual press conference Wednesday.

St. Petersburg Republican Senator Jeff Brandes has filed a bill to protect business from “frivolous” COVID-19-related lawsuits. Brandes says the measure is at the top of his agenda.

School teachers are calling for a change in the vaccine distribution plan created by Governor Ron DeSantis. While DeSantis says he’s prioritizing the highly vulnerable elderly population first, school employees are asking to be included on the priority list. A Florida coalition is requesting utilities remain on until June of 2021 for people behind on payments. Between March and October, Florida’s four largest utility companies incurred more than 60 million in debt due to late payments

Governor Ron DeSantis and The Florida Cabinet chose former Broward County Supervisor of Elections Pete Antonacci as the next chief judge of the state Division of Administrative Hearings. This will be Antonacci’s first time in a judicial role.DeSantis said the smooth election in Broward convinced him Antonacci could handle the job.

A controversial proposal to allow guns to be carried on public college and university campuses in Florida is back. The measure has failed several times in the past but the sponsor believes it’ll have a shot this year since Republicans gained seats in the Florida legislature. The usual opponents are standing their ground on the issue.

Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson signed a one-year contract extension Thursday, ensuring he will continue heading the school through 2021. Robinson’s original contract expires at the end of this year. FAMU board member David Lawrence Jr. says Robinson has turned the school around.

Florida State University President Thrasher gave possibly his last State of the University address before the Faculty Senate Wednesday. Thrasher announced in September he would be stepping down once the school names a new President. Thrasher’s Wednesday address focused on how the pandemic has changed higher education.

Two games have been added to Florida State University’s football schedule. The Seminoles will play at home against Duke on Dec. 12. And they’ll take on Wake Forest on Dec. 19. FSU Head Coach Mike Norvell says the whole team is thrilled.

Tallahassee Democratic Senator Loranne Ausley wants to increase broadband service in Florida’s rural counties. She says the need has always existed but has been highlighted by COVID-19 and distance learning. Ausley says currently not every student has the same access to education because some live in areas where broadband service is weak. She hopes to address that in the upcoming state legislative session.
