01/06/16: Concussions; Nu-Well Physicians; National Blood Donor Month

The new film "Concussion" is reigniting the debate over concussions and long-lasting neurological effects on football players.

We examine the impact of concussions on athletes, and look at locally-developed technology that could protect against them. Joining us are neurologist Dr. Syed Asad, and Rick Johnson, principal, and Jeff Legeer, marketing consultant, at the Jacksonville company Sports Technologies, LLC.

A group of 11 local physicians have formed the new company Nu-Well Physicians, which produces cold-pressed fruit and vegetable juices that provide key vitamins and nutrients. We speak with board member Dr. Cynthia Anderson about their OLUS+ line of juices.

And we find out how OneBlood (formerly the Blood Alliance) is partnering with the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens to encourage people to donate during National Blood Donor Month. OneBlood spokesperson Odette Struys and Lyndsay Plemmons, assistant manager of marketing with the Jacksonville Zoo, join us.
