08/11/15: Congressional Districts; Snapshot St. Augustine; Children Of Fallen Patriots; Good For You

Florida legislators are in Tallahassee this week for a special session to redraw the state’s congressional districts. This comes after the Florida Supreme Court ruled that the current maps violates anti-gerrymandering amendments. Tia Mitchell, Capital Bureau Chief for the Florida Times-Union, joins us to discuss the proposed new map, as well as the taxpayer costs for special sessions.

In our America's First City series commemorating St. Augustine's 450th, we speak with photographer Ken Barrett and Andrew Witt, Executive Director of the St. Johns Cultural Council. "Snapshot St. Augustine," an exhibition of Barrett's photos showing how the area has changed over the last 40 years, is on display now at the St. Johns County Administration Building.

We learn about the efforts of the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, a local organization that works to provide grants and scholarships for the children of those killed in the armed forces. Liz Zirkle, Grants and Outreach Program Manager for the Foundation, and Maggie Berry Wilkenson, a local mother whose daughter recently received a scholarship, join us.

And we preview this weekend's WJCT & Baptist Health "Good For You" event with WJCT CEO Michael Boylan and Audrey Moran, Senior Vice President of Corporate and Social Reasonability at Baptist Health.
