08/27/15: Virginia Shooting; UF Health Trauma One; River Ruckus; Kerry Speckman

On Wednesday, a former employee of Roanoke station WDBJ named Vester Lee Flanagan shot dead 24-year-old reporter Alison Parker and 27-year-old cameraman Adam Ward, while Parker was live on the air. We discuss this tragedy and how newsrooms handle events like this with Bob Ellis, General Manager of WJXT Channel 4, and David Luckin, WJCT Music Director and 30 year broadcast veteran.

UF Health Jacksonville's Trauma One emergency program has been dispatching what are known as “flying intensive-care units” across this area for the past 30 years. In fact, it’s the only Level One trauma center in our region. We discuss the 30th anniversary of the program and its role in the local health care system with Chad McIntyre, Manager of Trauma One Flight Services, and Dr. J. Bracken Burns, Medical Director.

Contributor Kerry "The Specktator" Speckman joins us with a look at this weekend's events. Plus, we speak with Shannon Blankinship of the St. Johns Riverkeeper about the annual St. Johns Riverkeeper & Riverside Arts Market "River Ruckus" event.
