Wednesday on First Coast Connect we looked at new data on the opioid crisis in Florida and explored a range of issues surrounding addiction with guests and callers.

Our guests were Florida Blue CEO Pat Geraghty and Dr. Christine Cauffield, Executive VP of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services with LSF Health Systems.

An opioid forum will be hosted in Orlando on Monday as a community discussion. Afterwards, GuideWell plans to reveal statewide and localized statistics that demonstrates the impact the epidemic is having in each region of Florida.

Beefing Up Your Cyber Security

You may be surprised to learn how easy it is for someone to compromise your data on the Internet.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which is organized by the National Cyber Security Alliance.

Cindy Arco from Comcast joined us with steps people can take to keep their data secure.

Generation WOW

Generation WOW is a program exposing girls across the First Coast to the positive and the possible.

The organization introduces girls and women to mentorships, social media, getting into college and other areas necessary to moving toward a successful career.

Stacy Ellison joined us with a look at the program. She’s Generation WOW’s Chief Enthusiast, Director of Operations and Programming.

She also told us about WOW Jacksonville, which is set for November 14. The event at the University of North Florida’s Lazzara Performance Hall will feature speakers, interactive activities and exposure to diverse career pathways. More information is available here.
